By Tomeu Bordoy

the hotel factory continues growing, not only in new and interesting projects, but also regarding to its own team. We always have candidates who come to our company to do the internships of their degree studies or university master thanks to the various university agreements that we have signed with universities throughout the Spanish territory as well as internationally.

Therefore, as we usually do, we have asked the people who are doing with us their internships to tell us something more about themselves, their studies and their experience with us.

Today we introduce you to Timon Piazza; Master student of Economics in Tourism: Monitoring and Evaluation of the University of the Balearic Islands and who has made his internship with us since last April.

THF: Tell us a little bit more about yourself. Where are you from? What are you studying?

I’m from germany. I was born in Heppenheim, a village near Frankfurt. I have been living in Mallorca since I was four years old so I consider myself half German and half Mallorcan. Last year I finished my bachelor degree in business administration and now I am studying the Master in Economics of Tourism: Monitoring and Evaluation.

THF: Why did you decide to study this?

I studied business administration because I was very interested in the business world, especially the marketing side. Tourism was mentioned little during my career, actually we didn’t see almost anything. I wanted to learn more about the tourism industry and for this reason I decided to start my Master in Economics of Tourism.

Tourism is an essential sector in a sun and beach destination, as it is the one we have here in Mallorca. It is an industry with constant growth and for that reason the use of languages like English and German is very relevant in this sector.

THF: How did you come to know about the hotel factory? What caught your attention?

I have known the company at the UIB Forum. At first I thought that it was a hotel chain but when I got more information about the firm I understood that it was a hotel consultancy. What struck me the most is that the hotel factory is the only consultancy specialized in the hotel industry in Spain hence the company works effectively.

THF: What was your impression when you met us for the first time during the interview?

My first impression was very positive. I immediately understood that it was a professional business and I felt very comfortable during the interview.

THF: Now that you have seen first hand the kind of work that we do here, is it what you expected of a hotel consultant?

The truth is that I didn’t know exactly how the business of a hotel consultancy worked hence I had no clear and definite idea of the concept. However having experienced the way in which the projects are carried out and the overall work helped me a lot understanding the concept of consultancy.

THF: What do you like the most about this job and what will you miss the most?

The dynamics, the variety and above all the knowledge that I acquired from being involved in different projects.

THF: What type of projects have you worked on during your months with us? Do find them interesting?

I have been working on several projects. The one I spent the most time had been a Mystery Guest project. This project consisted of knowing the reputation and opinion that travel agencies in four different countries about a hotel brand with the aim for our customer to adapt their marketing strategies and improve the decision making process.

THF: Although your university curriculum practices are over, you have been offered to continue for at least three more months. What did you think of the offer? Do you feel like continuing with the hotel factory?

In my first interview I was informed that this company is looking for employees who like their work, are motivated and had the intention to stay in the firm. This is my case. I am very happy to be able to continue working for the hotel factory team and I am looking forward to staying.

THF: What you would say to all the students who want to work as an intern? What reasons would you give for them to choose the factory hotel?

I would tell them how great of an opportunity it is working here in order to develop professional skills and that they should come with the desire to learn and gain knowledge because this is the ideal place to do it.
